In the jungle at Giardino, Palazzo Versace

Welcome to the jungle, they have fun and games…

Brunch can be a risky pastime when you have kids in tow. If you, the responsible adult, want any type of pleasurable experience, you basically have two options – you can load up the iPads with digital distractions and then suffer the parental guilt of screen time, or you go for a family brunch which offers entertainment activities.

But even the latter has its dangers. Not all brunches are created equal. Success requires a range of interactive entertainment, for all ages, tastes and sizes of anger. Some poor tortured soul in the corner who paints toothy grinning fizzogs with butterflies and Spider-Men, just isn’t going to cut it.

We walk through the famous Medusa mosaic lobby floor of Jaddaf’s Palazzo Versace, en route to Giardino for the Into the Jungle brunch. It’s a collaboration with ‘Family Brunch’ – an event organizer who, unsurprisingly, hosts family brunches at many of the city’s top hotels.

In the jungle

The marbled adornment of this fashion palace peels off as you enter the staging venue, it’s bright, open and devoid of any priceless artifacts that sugar-stunned five-year-olds might accidentally (on purpose) destroy. There is a central island offering seafood, rustic bread and fragrant cheeses, there are British-style carvery stations, curries, sushi sets, an aromatic Southeast Asian cooking wok Is and a corner dedicated to children to make their own good food choices.

There will always be a ceiling to the gastronomy strength of an international buffet, but for families – an institution where patience is often unevenly distributed – having a wide variety of palate delights on demand and with access to end Wearing can be the difference between happiness and a strength 10, bratty meltdown. And by the way, this particular spread is most definitely at the top end of the international buffet league table. Our favorite plates were the expertly grilled lobster tails and the “perfect medium” roast beef rump.

The Mighty Jungle

Entertainment is where this brunch really hits the upper canopies. Throughout the event, a costumed Groot roams the tables, outside on the terrace there’s face painting, but you’ll also find a coloring camp and pots of plants to take away. Moana has arrived, fresh from an intercontinental raft trip, to perform a musical extravaganza and host meet-and-greets with budding princesses (singer may vary on other dates). And the seemingly ubiquitous Magic Phil (he’s magic after all) put on one of his hugely entertaining two-way shows, teasing almost as much laughter from parents as children.

The little lions will sleep well tonight

To help make it a day to remember, your brunch admission also includes pool passes, giving you access to the boldly appointed central and west pools, as well as the kids’ club.

Verdict: This is without a doubt one of the best facilities for family brunches in all of Dubai, further enhanced by an exceptional level of patient and professional service. Our group included children aged 2-14, all of whom said they were well fed, well entertained and ready for an early bed. And it’s worth its weight in Italian marble. Rating: A
