Roll the ball
You may have noticed that most of the high-profile events that have been shelved, paused and packed for the past two years have all decided that June is the month to make a comeback. This is when international travel itineraries will be filled and we can guarantee that Europe will have a season of waiting lists for restaurants, hotel beach clubs and flights between sunny places along the Mediterranean. The Salone del Mobile in Milan kicks off in early June, followed by the Three Days of Design in Copenhagen, followed by Art Basel. Before those – those who never miss an opportunity – the Monocle team will kick things off by starting your big design and art summer tour in Paris, where we will be hosting the seventh edition of our conference on quality of life from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 June.
In addition to our classic themes of building better communities, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and education, Paris also provides us with a unique opportunity to discuss retail, the luxury sector, aviation and the hotel industry in all its forms. A small battalion of Monocle editors and staff will be on hand to take care of you. Along the way, there will be guided runs through the city, special gallery and store visits, and the chance to see some of Chanel’s workshops at Le19M, the heart of our conference backdrop. Exceptional wines and extraordinary catering of course, and we’re taking over the La Coupole nightclub with our special good times and rockers editor, DJ Pitsch.
On the Sunday after the conference, many of us will head to Milan, where we will establish a base with USM at Rossignoli in Brera. After that, head to Copenhagen for a tour of the best of Danish and international design. To learn more about Paris and our conference, please visit us here or see more details below.
If you can’t join us in Paris, Milan and more, we have a few extra dates on the agenda over the next few weeks.
May 11. We are opening the doors of our Tokyo office for the launch in Asia of The Norse Monocle Book. I will be there with our Tokyo bureau chief, Fiona Wilson, and my colleagues to sign copies, toast and celebrate my return to my favorite country. Hooray!
May 21st. Our annual Badi Market in Zürich will allow us to bring together top brands and companies offering everything you need for a swimming and sun season. To set the tone, there will also be a little bossa nova session to accompany the savory bites and the rosé.
May 28. The Toronto office and store will hold a spring preview and Cherry tree party, with a range of Japanese sweets and drinks. We’ll also have our editors on hand for book scribbles and – all well at the printers – perhaps the start of our new title, The monocle book of photography.
July 1st. Finally, summer kicks into high gear on the first day of July, with our annual gathering of readers and friends from across Mitteleuropa and beyond at our store in Merano.
You can find more details and notes on other events (we’re also working on London and Los Angeles right now) by keeping an eye on this column. And you can always drop a note at [email protected].
Pack your bags. We will see you very soon.
