Kyrgyzstan witnessed a fascinating fashion show, called the World Nomad Fashion Festival, where models showed off the beauty of tribal fashion. The show took place in Cholpon-Ata, which is a resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, about 207 km from Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.
While we’re all fairly familiar with mainstream fashion festivals around the world, like Paris or Milan, here’s something that should interest most people, even if they aren’t fashion enthusiasts. The fact that you can see designs, aesthetics and more from nomadic culture is quite fascinating in itself.
The international festival saw collections from designers from over 20 countries. You had designers from Russia, India, France, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Bashkortostan, etc. It was truly a melting pot of diverse cultures, coming together to celebrate diversity.
Great learning opportunity, the festival takes little-known cultures and celebrates them. Put them in the foreground and assimilate them to the dominant culture.
The backdrop to this festival could not have been better. The seaside resort of Cholpon-Ata is a beautiful destination which gives you the opportunity to understand this part of the world. Cholpon-Ata had also hosted the first three World Nomad Games, so it’s a pretty exciting destination with a lot to offer foreign tourists.
